Tradescantia bracteata - Prairie Spiderwort
Perennial plant growing up to 1.5 feet tall. Grows in full sun and dry to medium soils. Species has a fibrous root system and spreads by rhizomes. The showy purple flowers attract a variety of bees. A second bloom period can sometimes be encouraged by clipping the foliage back after the first flowering period. Blooms from May to July.
